Tet-Edu Challenge Nigeriaâ„¢ is a set of national competitions designed to inspire the pursuit of academic and professional excellence among Nigerian undergraduates who are studying various courses in universities, polytechnics, colleges or monotechnics in Nigeria. It is starting with selected courses and it is intended to cover more courses in the future.
It is a set of intellectual contests where representing undergraduates of various tertiary institutions in Nigeria are tested in competitions through multiple-choice questions to ascertain winners through different stages until the ultimate winner emerges. Participating schools are represented by contestants from each school. They are put through series of multiple-choice questions and the institution with the highest score or institutions with qualifying higher scores above others in a round proceed to the next level of contest. Subsequent rounds continue into the determination of the ultimate winner and runners-up. Only the top three (3) runners-up in addition to the ultimate winners are recognised for rewards.
There are cash prizes for the ultimate winners and the runners-up. The first prize winning set of contestants goes away with the highest prize money while the second position winners go with the next ranking prize money and the third-placed position winners get the next amount of cash prize. The third runners-up i.e. fourth (4th) position go away with the bottom prize money. Ceremonial cheques are issued for the total amount of each prize position but separate equal transfers in money are made to each of the winners at their appropriate prize level.
There are also book prizes to be won by all tertiary institutions in Nigeria by virtue of participation. This will be worth hundreds of thousands in books to each school. The books are for the equipping of the libraries of the participating schools.
The final rounds of the Tet-Edu Challenge Nigeriaâ„¢ will be broadcast through two (2) television stations with national coverage and beyond. This is aimed at providing inclusive viewership opportunity to the entire resident Nigerian population and other people towards showcasing the many gifted and educated minds we have in Nigeria.
This competition is important for various reasons. It will:
(i) Â promote the culture of learning for excellence directly by those studying various disciplines in Nigerian tertiary institutions;
(ii) uniformly develop education in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions;
(iii) provide external and standard evaluation mechanism for all schools to deepen their intellectual and educational quality on courses of focus;
(iv) enable the linking of theoretical concepts with practical realities for understanding and mastery;
(v) lead to the grooming of better graduates for the country and beyond;
(vi) promote national cohesion and unity among Nigerian undergraduates;
(vii) serve as a medium of inspiring Nigerian undergraduates and youth into becoming their best;
(viii) join in projecting the image of Nigeria positively to the entire African continent and the wider world;
(ix) lead to enlightenment of the Nigerian audience and other stakeholders and this will accentuate development in Nigeria in many ways; and
(x) create a platform to enable potential employers of labour have first-hand monitoring of potential graduate employees for consideration.
